H&E of muscle biopsy

H&E of muscle biopsy

This is an H&E from a muscle biopsy in a horse. The cytoplasm stains pink and the nuclei stain purple. The point of interest in this picture are the fibers that have the areas that appear to have areas that don't stain pink on the edges. These areas are actually accumulations of glycogen.

This picture is a PAS stain from the same biopsy and area as the above H&E. Notice the dark staining on the edge of some of the fibers. These are the same areas that don't stain pink on the above H&E.
