How To Prep for a “New” Coggins Appointment
If we have not performed a Coggins test on your horse in the past (for example, if are a new client or have acquired a new horse), we will need to collect information and photos from you during your appointment. There are a few things you can do to prepare in order to have a quick and smooth Coggins appointment with our vets!
Don’t worry - if you are unable to do these tasks ahead of time, we will happily do them for you at the appointment.
- Brush/clean your horse. There should be no mud or manure spots on your horse, including on the lower limbs. This ensures all markings are clearly visible.
- Complete this form with your horse’s information - You can either print the form or email it to hendersonequine@gmail.com

- Send photos to hendersonequine@gmail.com, following these guidelines: - The images must be clear and in color
- There must be three images, one of the entire left side, one of the entire right side, and one of the face, including muzzle and ears
- Each leg must be visible all the way to the coronets
- The horse should fill approximately 90% of the photo (minimal human content in the photo, and NO other horses in the photo)
- The horse should not be wearing any tack or blankets (except halter or bridle)
- Ideally photo should be taken outdoors (or well-lit barn) with the sun or light source behind the photographer
- When taking side view photos, separate the legs to show markings inside the limbs
- Include your name, your horse’s name, and where they are stabled in your email to us.
